Dave Kauppila Joins HolisticAM!

Holistic Asset Management (HolisticAM) is delighted to welcome Dave Kauppila to our team as a Senior Reliability Engineering Specialist. Dave will be responsible for providing strategic direction, technical services and reliability training to our local and international clients.

Dave has been into asset management and reliability engineering since the beginning of his career. After spending nearly ten years getting his hands dirty as an engineering tradesperson, Dave earned an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. In total, he has spent more than 30-years gaining practical experience in the asset management field, where he has continually applied his reliability principles and holistic asset management practices to deliver operational and financial goals across diversified industries, such as mining & metals, manufacturing, transport and the public sector.

“I love my career and have always strived to achieve my best in everything I do,” Dave said. “I hope to leave a mark on each client’s project… educating and mentoring people to help them look after their assets in a better more profitable way is my ultimate goal.”

Dave is passionate about RCM and enjoys facilitating groups to produce value-adding maintenance strategies. “I find that RCM is much-maligned and largely misunderstood in the broader industry. A well-considered and managed maintenance strategy is one of the best ways an organisation can improve their workforce morale and their bottom line. A constant parade of ‘broken stuff’ is a sure way to create unhappy people and angry bosses.” Dave is currently working with a group of engineers and nuclear scientists to develop RCM-based maintenance strategies for their one-of-a-kind assets. “Failure is common to all assets, and projects like this underline the power of RCM…for these guys failure of certain assets is not an option.”

Besides showing his enthusiasm for mentoring less experienced asset management professionals, Dave also said that he believes “the client’s happiness is my happiness”, which shows the strongest alignment to HolisticAM’s core values. “For me, it’s about integrity… I’m passionate about exceeding the expectations of our clients, making sure they are 100% satisfied. That’s where I find my satisfaction.”

 Some fun facts about Dave Kauppila:

• Dave is keen on history and culture. He has always been fascinated by ancient cultures and hopes to visit Machu Picchu one day to learn more about one of the ancient civilizations in South America.
• Dave enjoys scale modelling. Taking weeks to finish a model and making sure all the details are perfect gives him a great sense of achievement.
• Dave owns 4 motorcycles.
